Frequently Asked Questions:

Why does my child's schoolwork have more than one grade?
If a student scores a 70% or lower on an assignment it must be corrected and returned. A student may also choose to correct and return an assignment that was higher than a 70% if they would like to improve their grade. I take the average of both grades to determine the final grade. When assignments are corrected and returned for any reason you will see the original grade, the corrected grade, and the average final grade.

How do you grade spelling tests?
Your student will have 20 spelling words every week. The first fifteen words on their spelling test will be graded normally and the final five words will be worth one bonus point each. The maximum score on a spelling test is 105%.

Can I send snacks to school?
YES! The class loves to have snack during the day. I do not have a “snack calendar” so if you would like to send a snack, please do whenever you'd like. Please be sure that whatever you send is a healthy snack – no cookies, candies, and sweets.

Why have I not seen a lot of math work in my child's Thursday folder?
Edmond Public Schools adopted a new math curriculum called Every Day Math. With this series, students work through a math journal that stays at school. Their work is graded in the journal and is not sent home until the journal is completed. If you would like to know how your child is doing, you can view your child's grades online through PIV (see Useful Websites Link) I would also be happy to discuss your child's grade with you anytime.

How do you grade At Home Reading?
Your child is required to read at least 20 minutes a night. If your child read for 20 minutes, please sign their homework log indicating that their homework was completed. If their homework log is not signed they will not receive credit for at home reading.

How do you grade Home Links?
Home Links are graded for completion. However, I do not expect students to work on their home links for more than 20 minutes. If your child has attempted his or her home link for at least 20 minutes (of focused effort) please draw a line where they stopped and initial. This should rarely happen but when it does no points will be deducted from the assignment.
